The Voices We Gather: A Poetic Jazz Jill Scott Tribute

There is something special about the artists who find their way to Poetic Jazz. Some arrive through a recommendation. Some through an open mic. Some have been with us for years. And some become part of the story in ways that have nothing to do with a stage.
Tomorrow night, four voices come together at Black Coffee for the Poetic Jazz Jill Scott Tribute: Meosha D, Val B, Crystal Autumn, and N’ova J.
Four artists. Four stories. Four different ways of carrying soul.
And one woman’s music giving us the space to gather: Jill Scott.
Meosha D

Some artists don’t just perform with us. They become part of us.
Meosha D is one of those artists. For years, Meosha—and her late husband—have been part of the Poetic Jazz experience. We’ve shared stages, music, laughter, and life. And then life asked something different of her. We’ve watched Meosha move through loss. Through grief. Through the kind of love that doesn’t simply disappear because someone is no longer here. And somehow, through it all, she kept showing up. She kept making music. She kept supporting. She kept loving. She kept finding her way back to the room. There is something deeply beautiful about an artist who allows music to hold her while she learns how to carry what she has lost.
We hope, in some small way, Poetic Jazz has been able to hold space for Meosha the way she has held space for us. Tomorrow, she steps into a Jill Scott tribute carrying all of that with her. Not just the music. The life behind the music.
And that means something to us.
Val B

Sometimes the feature finds you.
Val B found us on an open mic. She stepped onto a stage at another tribute show, submitted her talent, and gave us a chance to hear what she could do. We heard her. We loved her.
And now, she’s no longer just submitting for the opportunity. She is the moment.
That’s one of the things we love most about Poetic Jazz: creating spaces where artists can be discovered. Where you can walk into a room as a voice in the crowd and leave knowing somebody heard you.
Tomorrow, Val B steps into the room as a featured artist, bringing her own voice to the music of Jill Scott.
Crystal Autumn

Then there is Crystal Autumn.
That voice. Velvety. Warm. Angelic.
The kind of voice that doesn’t ask you to listen—it simply makes you want to. Crystal carries a softness that is never without strength. There is something almost ethereal about her presence, but when she sings, there is soul underneath it. Depth. Intention. Feeling. She is the kind of artist who reminds you that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply allow a song to breathe and simultaneously tell a story. And what better place to let that voice live than inside the music of Jill Scott? Tomorrow, Crystal brings her own interpretation, her own feeling, and her own story to a catalog that has given so many of us words for things we couldn’t always say ourselves. We can’t wait to hear what she does with it.
Nova J

And then there’s N’ova J.
A soultry woman. Rooted in R&B. Raised by soul. Connected to the kind of music that feels familiar before you even know why. Nova J is another one of those artists we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming back into the Poetic Jazz family. There’s something about her artistry that feels both grounded and free—like she knows where she comes from, but she isn’t afraid to let the music take her somewhere new.
We love having her in this space.
And tomorrow, she gets to step into Jill Scott’s world and bring us the version that only Nova J can give. Because that’s what a tribute should be. Not imitation.
Interpretation. Not simply recreating the music, but allowing it to move through another artist and become something new.
Tomorrow Night
That’s what you’re really coming to experience. Not just a Jill Scott tribute.
You’re coming to hear Meosha D, Val B, Crystal Autumn, and N’ova J bring their own lives, voices, memories, and interpretations into the music of an artist who has spent decades reminding us that soul can be poetry, poetry can be music, and music can make a room feel like home.
One room.
Forty-five seats.
Four voices.
One incredible body of work.
And a night created for people who still believe music can reach somewhere words sometimes can’t.
Come sit close. Come listen deeply. Come feel something.
This is Poetic Jazz: Jill Scott Tribute.
